Behind Spargus Restaurant stand Mateja and Andrej Smogavc. Together with our team, we create a place where good food never happens by chance, but through thought, respect, and a genuine love for cooking.
Andrej’s culinary journey began early, driven by a fascination with flavours, techniques, and pastry. His path led him through hands-on training, the Slovenian national culinary team, and some of Slovenia’s finest kitchens, shaping a clear vision: to cook honestly, with sensitivity, and without shortcuts.
In 2015, we began building our story together. After seven years at Gostilna Grič in Slovenske Konjice, our journey led us to Špitalič – to Gastuž.
Gastuž, the oldest still-operating inn in Slovenia (1467), is the quiet companion of our story. On its upper floor, Spargus Restaurant brings together contemporary cuisine and heritage.
Our kitchen is rooted in local ingredients, seasonality, and close cooperation with local producers and our own farm. We take our time and make no compromises on quality, believing that the best experiences are created without haste.
